So your friend or relative has done all her homework and graduated from nursing school. What kind of gift should you get the newly minted nurse? There are tons of ideas from cute to useful and everywhere in between.
First of all, your new nurse is going to have to buy uniforms and shoes, and those can get expensive. Why not give them a gift card to a nursing supply company? That way they’ll have the extra money to put towards the first of what will be career long expenses.
Some new nurses have received gifts of days at the spa or massages and appreciated them immensely. After all of those sleepless nights studying for exams, a massage is just what the nurse ordered!
If your nurse hasn’t taken the nursing exam yet, why not buy them an NCLEX (the National Council Licensure Examination) study guide, or an updated book of medication?
Because nurses are always using their hands and sometimes putting them in yucky stuff, why not find a watch that can be clipped on or worn around the neck? This is a very practical and useful gift. Don’t go digital on it, those minute marks and second hands are important in the nursing profession! You can also get the watch engraved to make the gift even more personal.
Something a nurse will also need are pens, and lots of them. A good suggestion is a refillable pen that writes well and either clips on or has a string they can use to wear the writing utensil around their neck. Imagine how often a nurse sets down her pen and forgets where she put it! Some companies make novelty pens that are shaped like syringes; this would be a great ‘cute’ gift for a nurse. Some nurses also love pens that have flashlights included.
A stethoscope engraved with his or her name is a great idea for a useful and personalized gift.
Nurses are famous for being healthy, especially with their food habits, so a nice, roomy lunch box or bag would be a great gift. Some of those freezer packs that keep food cold would be an awesome addition to the gift.
If the new nurse has kids, offering to babysit so he or she can have a night out on the town to celebrate would be a very welcome gift.
