Do you want to be a nurse? Nursing is a fast growing facet of healthcare. Everyday more people are being born, getting sick, or aging and these people need nurses! You have more than likely experienced the care that a nurse provides and if you are thinking of becoming a nurse, your life will be enriched by the type of giving that comes with a career in this field. Nurses provide care, support, and treatment to those in need, every single day.
Nevada has many programs in community based colleges around the state that can help you become a nurse. Every student must complete a state approved program. You may choose what is right for you, License Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse(RN). An LPN takes about one year to complete and must always work under the supervision of an RN. Registered nursing degrees take two years for an Associate's degree and four years for a Bachelor's degree. RNs may work in supervisory or teaching roles. The coursework will include both written and hands on training. The hands on or manual skills portion is referred to as clinicals. This part of your training may take place with live patients in a hospital setting.
You will need to complete a form that requests permission to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) after graduating your nursing training. Every nursing student in the nation must take this test and pass before they can receive a license in all states. The exam is computerized. On the day you take the exam you must provide photo identification and will need to pay for testing. Nevada will issue a license the same day of testing, if you pass the NCLEX. The physical license will be mailed to your home. It could take up to six weeks for it to arrive. Nurses from other states that wish to work in Nevada must apply for license by endorsement. This state does not participate in the National Licensure Compact.
Nevada nurses must renew their license every twenty four months or risk the license becoming inactive. It will cost extra to reinstate the license if it becomes inactive.
